NOTICE WRITING

DEFINITION

Notices are a means of formal communication targeted at a particular person or a group of persons. It is like a news item informing such person or persons of some important event. This can be an invitation to a meeting, an announcement of any event, to issue certain instructions, make appeals etc.

KINDS OF NOTICE

·         Lost and found notice

·         Notice informing about a meeting, event, function etc. to be organized or had been organized

·         Notice announcing about tours, competitions, seminars etc.

·         Notice announcing change of names, address etc.

FORMAT

It should be written in the following format:

·         The name of the organization issuing the Notice.(IN CAPITAL LETTER)

·         The word NOTICE (IN CAPITAL LETTER)

·         Date of issue/release of notice (ON LEFT HAND SIDE)

·         Title/Subject of the Event

·         Body of Notice

·         Writer’s signature, name and designation

 









GUIDELINES FOR WRITING THE NOTICE

·         A notice is always written in a box

·         It should not exceed fifty words

·         It should clearly mention the cause for which it is written. The information included should be clear, concise, lucid and accurate.

·         Details like date, time, venue, name of the issuing authority, designation of the person writing the notice etc should be clearly specified.

·         A notice makes use of passive voice and third person pronouns.

Sample Question.
You are Sachin of Class VII A of KV, CRPF, Guwahati. You have lost your library book in the playground during recess. Write a notice in not more than 50 words to be put in the school notice board.
